The answer is it depends on what specifically you are considering. There are many niche food suppliers in the Irish market that are doing very well from the large quoted companies like Origin Enterprises (Agri food stuffs suppliers) to Keelings (small scale fruit supplier). If you are planning on supplying the raw materials to the food production companies then this is a fairly common means of revenue generation for your production. If you are considering retailing to customers directly then this is a very different business model with a lot more factor to consider (distribution, end user production, marketing, wholesale or retail, demand, price sensitivity, etc). Market research will be critical in our in your final decision and while its always good to be a bit different make sure there is a demand for the product area you are considering and how much it will cost to get the concept to market (it is always more than you think).
