18 December 2020: Revenue has updated guidance for the implementation of the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme( EWSS) following changes made to the Finance Bill.

Employers making a claim under EWSS must now show a 30pc reduction in turnover will occur for the period January 1 to June 30 2021.

Companies must make the calculation by December 31 2020 and compare it to the corresponding period in 2019, demonstrating to Revenue’s satisfaction that their business will still qualify for the supports under the new conditions of the scheme.

Businesses will now have to review their eligibility monthly, based on actual incremental revenue figures.

Full details of the changes are included in the EWSS guidelines issued by Revenue:

Guidelines on the operation of the Employment Wage Subsidy Scheme (EWSS)
*changes are highlighted in yellow on page 6, sample projections page 13

Employers who no longer qualify based on new projections will have to de-register from the scheme.

Incorrect submissions will be clawed back by Revenue or offset against future payments under the scheme.
